FLYWHEEL BRAKES

 

 

                                                     Flywheel Brake Installed

 

OSHA #1910.218(f)(ii)

“When dies are being changed or maintenance is being performed on the press, the following shall be accomplished.

                   (ii) The flywheel shall be at rest.

 

This typically requires the operator or set-up person to wait a considerable amount of time for the flywheel to stop before making adjustments, cleaning, or repairs.

 

USAGE:               Mechanical Stamping and Forging Presses

 

ADVANTAGES:    Universal design allows for simple installation.

                            Slows flywheel down quickly.

                            "Kevlar" lining material for long wear life.

 

BENEFITS:          Increased safety, Reduced down time,

                            Increased production time.

ACTUATION:                   Brake is pneumatically engaged, and spring released. Commonly actuated by a small
2-way 3-port pneumatic valve.

 

INSTALLATION:              The flywheel brake is mounted on a bracket so as to apply pressure to the face (side) of the flywheel when engaged. The bracket can be supplied either by the customer or with the brake (to customer’s specifications).

NOW AVAILABLE:  OD MOUNTS. Flywheel radius cut into lining material.

 

MAINTENANCE:             “Kevlar” friction lining material can be replaced without removal of unit, allowing for minimal maintenance.
